Learn how to generate mattes, or masks, using 3ds Max and V-Ray’s render elements, and how to use these for added control in compositing. Omar shows you which render elements to use and various techniques for how to set them up. He then shows how to use the generated masks in Fusion to color correct just the car paint and the rims of the rendered image. Fusion 6 (including the free Learning Edition, see link in the sidebar) can be used to follow the tutorial. However, the techniques shown apply to most compositing applications.

Assembly of the Lego set 10179 from Star Wars Ultimate collector series in stop motion in 3d. Created using 3ds max and V-ray. A very long work over 3 years, modelling all the pieces one by one.
This was an internal development piece that we produced at RealtimeUK. (realtimeuk.com)
The team was approx 4/5 people, working over a couple of months. Made in 3dsmax, rendered in vray, post in AfterFX. It’s a bit flickery in places, but we were on a tight deadline before we had to get back to paid work. Only just managed to fit it in.
Might see about re-rendering a few bits. The body is Mo-Cap, the Face is hand animated morph targets. The Mo-Cap was recorded at Audiomotion (audiomotion.com) The Mo-Cap data is taken from one continuous stream. The whole piece plays end to end, so we could concentrate on the cinematography. Characters were modelled in zbrush.
